Jame’s Story

Our son James came to Arca over 4 years ago and was very successfully rehabilitated and never for one moment has there been any problem with him going back to his old ways for which we are so very grateful.

James is one of your success stories that you don’t even know about…he first of all won R75 000 garden makeover in a verge competition, he received an award from the major for beautifying our verge in another verge competition.

Much appreciated, Lynn

Referral Letter from David Biggs

Attended at ARCA Rehab from 2 March 2017-23 March 2017

It all began 16 yrs ago. I realised I needed help, but sometimes realising u need help is only the first step. My problem was addiction and low self-esteem. My range of substances can fill the drug alphabet from A-Z. I was broken and sick. My first rehab was for celebrities and rock stars, I learnt many new ways of doing the bad things worse.

I found Heroin in 2010, after the loss of my child I turned to it as a pain killer, it caught me in its fake sense of comfort and invulnerability and took away the pain…temporary, it doesn’t heal, it delays it and only while u continually kill yourself does it make u believe u must have it and I could not imagine a day or hour without it. I was a mess. I never believed I could be the man I am today.

I never chose ARCA, ARCA was chosen for me, I currently live in Swaziland, where communities care and the church found me, desperate and alone. They decided that I needed something serious to get me out of the grips of addiction so I could begin to heal. They researched and off I was sent, bags packed and off to Durban. Of course like most addicts I delayed the process as much as possible, but I knew it was life or death.

I wanted life, and ARCA gave me that life back. A few highlights of my stay. Firstly the Big Chief himself, Dr Naidoo, I’ve never experienced a Doctor who would check up and pay as much personal care and motivation, he really does take time to individually assess the needs of each individual, he really somehow through the first few days detox and the transition to Naltrexone, induced minimal pain and discomfort to my withdrawal, heroin withdrawal can be hell, is hell, but I really do believe that ARCA, and Dr Naidoo, have what it takes to get even the most resilient addict through the worst of it.

Secondly, a big thank you to the rest of the staff and councillors, amazing people who were never short of sacrificing their own time and energy to help each and every one of us, with care and humility, love and truth.  There compassion and honest words were a source of inspiration and motivation. If I wanted homework it was given, if I needed their advice, it was given. To Vee, whose help and support and energy is impossible to ignore, went beyond his duties daily and always gave 100%! A million thanks to u all!

The food was great and plenty of tea and biscuits for snacks, and the Kitchen Mama a source of many morning smiles. Thank you.

Lastly, many complaints were heard of the boring Sunday at ARCA as each minute can turn into an hour, but now that I’m out and in the real world, I realise how incredibly important those Sundays were in preparing me for the realities of recovery.

One last note, I must say there was a time, and no rehab is immune to this, but a small group of individuals arrived that had no intention to get clean, and caused a lot of drama, but the centre dealt with it with a heavy fist and the discipline was firm and those that were unwilling to change were swiftly and decisively dealt with, well done to the team.

Overall something anybody that thinking of rehab for themselves or their loved one needs to know, if u are not prepared for the battle of your life, and don’t desire a total new way of life, it won’t work. No rehab will work. If u are ready, willing, and courageous and desire something so amazing that everyday clean becomes a blessing, something to finally be proud of, then I do recommend ARCA. My name is David Biggs, and I am a proud recovering drug addict.

My Son Basil
My son was admitted for the 21 day program at ARCA JHB. All I can say is that this place has helped my son so much. The staff there is wonderful, just to name a few, Genevieve, Pryees, Nkosi and AJ.

More caring and dedicated people I have not seen in a long time. From myself and my son Basil, we would like to say thank you very much for everything. Because of the love and care he got from ARCA JHB and the very dedicated staff, he is now on the road to recovery with a most positive outlook on life.

Thank you again. GOD Bless you and the work you do. I will recommend ARCA JHB most definitely to anyone who needs help.

Much appreciated always!

R.D’s Success Story
Just a quick “Thank You!!” shout-out to all in the ARCA group, with obvious special thanks to Dr Naidoo.

Today I have been sober exactly a year, having being admitted to the ARCA Durban clinic on the 22nd November 2013 (with a belly full of booze, thus my anniversary date begins on the 23rd). This is the longest I have been sober since starting to drink at about 16 years old!! (Even enforced sobriety during Military Service did not last this long!). I hope that at some stage my addiction will become a non-event but in the mean-time I shall celebrate with glass of juice and my daily Naltima tablet!!

Please keep sending me news of upcoming JHB meets…… I know I have not been in many months but the knowledge that I’m still on your database and that counselling and group is available is always re-assuring.

Again, many thanks!! RD

Ciyo’s Success Story
I entered the ARCA Centre on the 17th of July 2014, I had my last drink on the 16th of July 2014. Since then I never looked back, I have just finished two months without even a drop of alcohol. I have been taking pills since then and stopped last week on Friday. Since then I’ve never looked back.

Thanks to you all for your assistance. MC

S.M Story

Katie’s Story My dad went tried tons of stuff to help him recover (AA was one thing), but you were really the one thing that helped him. My mum and I love my dad with all our hearts; we think you’re the reason why my dad isn’t drinking in a motel right now and my mom and I aren’t living in an apartment complex. Also, he being sober is why I’m able to be involved in so many activities. I wanted to thank you so, so much for helping my dad. You saved our family. Because of you, my life is so much better. You helped my dad get over his addiction, and I will be eternally grateful to you because of that.

Bo’s Story

For more than 20 years, Mum has battled the alcoholism monster. ARCA’s unique program has been the most successful to date… and a non-trivial success at that. The “fear” of calling Mum at home in the evenings has all but disappeared. Mum’s outlook on life has changed from one of despair, resignation and destruction to one of hope, responsibility and affirmation. As a result, not only has my relationship with Mum strengthened, but also my individual strength has been bolstered; in effect, her demonstrated strength has become mine. Bo: With ARCA’s sophisticated methodology, combined with Mum’s dedication and resolve, have resulted in Mum’s return to being a mother (not just my mother), role model and dearest friend.
